Brand Color Palette Development
We started with a handful of flyer projects to achieve various goals. One goal was to have some eye-catching graphics that would be spotted and noticed after being placed around in local haunts. Another goal was to have some informational flyers that speak to Nexus Body Artsβ unique mission and commitment to inclusivity and safety. At the time, the storefront was about to open its doors for the first time ever (huge deal!!), so it was important to have some marketing material that didnβt just look like every other piercing or body mod shop. We wanted to stay away from hyper-masculine branding, or anything too ornate or mandala-inspired. I designed these flyers to be felt, not just seen. Thatβs shown in the textures, colors, and layouts shown here. Inspired by risograph printing, and clean, minimal, artistic design, I designed these flyers to be quickly and easily understood, while maintaining an interesting, tactile design.
Then we moved onto the website design and build-out. We wanted this website to be fun and playful, while still sharing info and functional details about the Nexus Body Arts studio. It was important that their gender-affirming services were front-and-center, and that the overall design was queer-coded, especially in the details. We wanted to incorporate a nod to hanky code (the historical practice of flagging queerness by wearing various colored handkerchiefs in your pocket), so I developed the custom navigation bar button on mobile which shows a purple hanky (which speaks specifically to piercing kinks!) popping out of a denim pocket. We did some explorative design around the existing color palette to ensure that this website was going to be accessible and ADA-compliant.

β(Jamie is our) brilliant mind behind our print advertising, as well as possibly some new digital updates. They are a talented queer designer who focuses on representing authentic elements of branding, incorporating queer identity into everything they do, and an anti-AI, pro ethical production creative. Their ethics align so closely with ours as a brand it feels like a perfect puzzle piece fit, and we are so incredibly grateful to be able to support a creative like this and work together on some amazing projects.β
